Some other side effect you might encounter include:

Dark Circles Under Your Eyes - these will disappear after your treatment is over.

Nose Bleeds - Sign of low platelets

Change in Smell - Sense of smell can be stronger-you may be able to smell things others can't-which can trigger nausea.
What you can do: Avoid foods served warm or hot which have a stronger aromas. Your sense of smell will return to normal after your recovery is complete.

 

Cavities are also more common due to the lack of saliva to wash away food particles and bacteria. Be careful-a toothache can cause doctors to halt or postpone your treatment, slowing your recovery.
What you can do: The hospital dentist may recommend fluoride supplements to help preserve the enamel on your teeth , which is often weakened by BMT treatment.

Swollen tongue, lips, roof of mouth - a common short-term effect.

Skin and Nail Problems - Rashes, redness, itching, peeling, dry skin, and acne are all common results of radiation. These problems are annoying, but not serious.
What you can do: Hot showers or baths dry skin, so use warm water and a moisturizing soap for bathing. Apply a water-based moisturizer afterwards. Wear loose-fitting, cotton clothing, and avoid scratchy materials like wool.
